General information

How can I sign up to the Treeps project? 

Simply enter your email address in the first questionnaireand give your consent to join the project. Remember to enter a valid email address, otherwise you will not be able to receive communications from Treeps and it will not be possible for you to participate.

What is the time frame of the study?

The Treeps questionnaires will take place in April/May 2026 and November 2026. Use of the Treeps app will be offered between May and August 2026 to a selected number of participants.

Who is leading the study? 

The SUPSI Institute of applied sustainability to the built environment (ISAAC), in collaboration with Energy Saving Trust.

Who is funding the study?

The Swiss Federal Office of Energy, as part of the SWEET Lantern project.

What is the objective of the study? 

The Treeps study aims to support the transition to a low-carbon society by contributing to the decarbonisation of long-distance leisure travel. Specifically, we will investigate the leisure travel and holiday behaviour of people living, working or studying in London.

Is there any way to guarantee participation in Part B?

No, all participants in Part B will be randomly selected by the SUPSI researchers. To ensures that the results of the Treeps research are rigorous, all participants will have the same chances of being invited to participate in Part B.  

Requirements for participation

Who can register for the Treeps project?

Anyone who lives, works or studies in London.

Can I participate in the project even if I do not live in London?

Yes, you can still participate if you study or work in London but do not live there.

What are the technical requirements to participate in the Treeps project?

To participate in the Treeps project, you will need access to a device with an Internet connection to complete the online questionnaires such as a laptop or a smartphone. If selected for Part B, you will also need a smartphone with the operating system of at least 10.0 for Android and 15.6 for iOS, to successfully install and use the project’s app.

How and when will I receive the Treeps questionnaires?

The questionnaires will be sent to you via email. You will answer the first one soon after registration; the second one will be sent to you later this year in November.

How long does it take to answer a questionnaire?

Less than 10 minutes! They are simple multiple-choice questions. 

What language are the questionnaires in?

The questionnaire is in English. 

What data is collected through the questionnaires? 

Basic socio-demographic information (age, gender, etc.) and habits regarding long-distance travel for holiday purposes. 

Technical problems

I have not received an invitation to use the Treeps app. What should I do? 

Don’t worry, you don’t have to do anything. Not receiving an invitation means that you have not been randomly selected by the researchers to use the app.

Leaving the project

What do I have to do to leave the project?

If you wish to leave the project, you can stop answering the questionnaires (and, if invited, stop using the app). However, we would appreciate it if you could send us an email to inform us that you would like to leave the project. In the email, you can request that your previous data be removed from the project’s data-base. You will not be required to provide a reason for leaving the project but we would appreciate if you could share why with us, as it could be relevant for our research purposes.
