The project

Treeps is a study performed by SUPSI, with the support of Lugano Living Lab, to understand the leisure and holiday habits of the people living, working or studying in Ticino, and particularly around Lugano.

The research is run within the broader SWEET Lantern project, funded by the Federal Office of Energy, to support the transition to a low-carbon society.

The Treeps study is divided into two parts: Part A and Part B. All Treeps participants will be invited to participate in the activities of Part A. Only a few participants, selected at random, will participate in Part B.

Part A

In Part A, participants will be invited to answer five short online questionnaires (lasting approximately 10 minutes each). The questionnaires will be conducted every 3 months, in the following periods:

  • soon after the registration to joint project activities;
  • end of June/beginning of July 2025;
  • end of September/beginning of October 2025;
  • end of December 2025/beginning of January 2026;
  • end of March 2026/beginning of April 2026.

Part B

Some of the Treeps participants, randomly chosen by the SUPSI researchers, will be invited by email to download a smartphone app and install it on their phone. They will then be invited to freely interact with the application, as and when they like it.

Invitations to download the app will be sent between the end of March 2025 and the beginning of April 2025. It will be possible to interact with the app until the end of June 2025.
